Man Driving Wrong Way On I-84 Was Under Influence, Police Say

A man driving the wrong way on a stretch of I-84 was allegedly under the influence, according to police.

Around 12:45 a.m. Monday, Feb. 11, Connecticut State Police from Hartford barracks responded to multiple calls of a wrong-way driver traveling eastbound on I-84 westbound around Exit 33 in the Town of Plainville.

The vehicle, a 2006 gray Mazda 3, was stopped facing the wrong way in the left lane before Exit 39. During police’s interview with the driver, 32-year-old Daniel Christopher Vice of Plainville, it became evident that he was intoxicated.

Vice was asked to submit to a series of field sobriety tests, which he failed. Vice was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Operation of a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol.drugs
  • Driving the wrong way on a divided highway
  • Impeding the entry/exit of a limited access highway
  • First-degree reckless endangerment

Vice was released after posting $5,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear at Hartford Superior Court on Tuesday, Feb. 26.
